   ณ สถานที่แห่งนี้ เมื่อสองร้อยกว่าปีเศษสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช พร้อมด้วยเหล่าทหารหาญได้ประกอบวีรกรรมทหารกล้า ได้ต่อสู้พม่าข้าศึก ที่รุกรานประเทศไทยจนได้รับชัชนะในการรบที่ค่ายบางกุ้ง มีผลดีต่อชาติไทยหลายประการ ที่สำคัญยิ่งคือขวัญ และกำลังใจของคนไทยที่เกือบจะสูญสิ้นไปกับการสูญเสียกรุงศรีอยุธยาให้แก่พม่าในปี 2310

      การรบชนะพม่าที่ ค่ายบางกุ้ง เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2311 (เป็นสงครามครั้งแรกที่ไทยรบกับพม่า ภายหลังจากที่สมเด็จพระจ้าตากสินมหาราช สถาปนากรุงธนบุรีเป็นราชธานี ทำให้ขวัญและกำลังใจของคนไทยกลับคืนมา




สถานที่ตั้ง ตำบลบางกุ้ง  อำเภอบางคนที  จังหวัดสมุทรสงคราม  

         เป็นค่ายทหารเรือไทยที่มีความสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ สมเด็จพระเจ้าเอกทัศน์ ทรงโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ยกกองทัพเรือมาตั้งค่ายที่ค่ายบางกุ้ง เรียกว่า "ค่ายบางกุง้" โดยสร้างกำแพงล้อมวัดบางกุ้งให้อยู่กลางค่าย เพื่อเป็นที่ยึดเหนี่ยวจิตใจและเป็นที่เคารพบูชาของทหาร ภายหลังเสียกรุงครั้งที่ 2 ค่ายบางกุ้งก็ร้างไปจนกระทั่งพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชทรงสถาปนากรุงธนบุรี เป็นราชธานีจึงทรงโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ชาวจีนจากระยอง ชลบุรี ราชบุรี และกาญจนบุรีรวบรวมผู้คนมาตั้งกองทหารรักษาค่าย จึงมีชื่อเรียกอีกหนึ่งว่า "ค่ายจีนบางกุ้ง" ในปี พ.ศ. 2311 พระเจ้ากรุงอังวะทรงยกทัพผ่านกาญจนบุรีมาล้อมค่ายจีนบางกุ้ง สมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชทรงโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้พระมหามนตรี (บุญมา) เป็นแม่ทัพยกไปช่วยเหลือทหารจีนขับไล่กองทัพพม่าทำให้ข้าศึกแตกพ่าย หลังจากนั้นค่ายบางกุ้งแห่งนี้ก็ถูกปล่อยให้รกร้างเกือบ 200 ปี จนมาถึง พ.ศ.2510 กระทรวงศึกษาธิการ จึงได้ตั้งเป็นค่ายลูกเสือขึ้น (ปัจจุบันได้ยกเลิกไปแล้ว) และได้สร้างศาลพระเจ้าตากสินไว้เป็นอนุสรณ์



สิ่งที่น่าสนใจ

     โบสถ์ปรกโพธิ์ เป็นอุโบสถหลังเดิมที่สร้างตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาเป็นราชธานี จะถูกปกคลุมด้วยรากไม้ใหญ่ทั้งโพธิ์ ไทร ไกร กร่าง มองจากภายนอกคิดว่าเป็นกลุ่มต้นไม้ใหญ่ มากกว่ามีโบสถ์อยู่ข้างใน รากไม้เหล่านี้ช่วยให้โบสถ์คงรูปอยู่ได้ ทั้งยังให้ความขรึมขลังอีกด้วย ภายในมีพระพุทธรูปประดิษฐาน ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า หลวงพ่อโบสถ์น้อย (หลวงพ่อนิลมณี) และเรียกโบสถ์ว่า "โบสถ์ปรกโพธิ์" และมีภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง สมัยปลายกรุศรีอยุธยาเป็นเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับพุทธประวัติ




   ที่ท่องเที่ยวทางประวัติศาตร์แห่งนี้ถือว่าเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่สำคัญมาก เมื่อมาถึงที่ค่ายบางกุ้งแล้วทุกท่านจะได้ไหว้ปิดทองขอพรพระในโบสถ์ปรกโพธิ์เพื่อเสริมศิริมงคล และใกล้ๆกันนั้นยังเป็นที่ตั้งของอนุสาวรีย์สมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินอีกด้วย ระยะการเดินทางจากบ้านปลาทับทิมแม่กลองรีสอร์ทของเราไปที่ค่ายบางกุ้ง มีทั้งทางเรือ และ ทางบก ระยะทาง 3-4 กิโลเมตรถือว่าไม่ไกลเลย เพราะการเดินทางทางเรือท่านก็จะได้เห็น วิวทิวทัศน์ของสองฝั่งแม่น้ำแม่กลองไปในตัวอีกด้วย  ส่วนการเดินทางบก ก็จะได้เห็นวิวทิวทัศน์ของ สวนผลไม้ต่างๆชนิดมากมาย เป็นบรรยากาศที่ร่มรื่นตลอดสองฝั่ง


  วัดบางกุ้ง เป็นวัดเก่าแก่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาเช่นกัน อยู่คนละฝั่งกับค่ายบางกุ้งโดยมีถนนผ่านกลาง สิ่งที่น่าสนใจในวัดนี้ได้แก่ คัมภีร์โบราณ ส่วนมากจะเป็นตำรายาโบราณ และบริเวณหน้าวัดด้านที่ติดกับแม่น้ำแม่กลอง จะมีปลาน้ำจืดต่างๆ อาศัยอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก จนได้ชื่อว่า "วังมัจฉา"
