กีฬาขี่ม้าถูกแบ่งออกเป็น 6 ประเภท ดังนี้คือ
1. Dressage ศิลปการบังคับม้า
2. Show jumping กระโดดข้ามเครื่องกีดขวาง
3. Eventing อีเว้นติ้ง
4. Driving รถม้า
5. Vaulting ยิมนาสติกบนหลังม้า
6. Endurance การขี่ม้าวิบาก

ใน โอลิมปิคเกมส์ กีฬาขี่ม้าถูกยอมรับและบรรจุเพียง 3 ประเภทแรกเท่านั้นสมาคมขี่ม้าแห่งประเทศไทยจึงได้กำหนดให้มีการแข่งขันใน เฉพาะ 3 ประเภทแรก ซึ่งได้รับความนิยมกันในหมู่สมาชิกสโมสรต่าง ๆ ฉะนั้นจะขอกล่าว เฉพาะกีฬาประเภทที่มีการแข่งขันกันในเมืองไทยและโอลิมปิกเท่านั้น

1. ศิลปะการบังคับม้า Dressage
