แต่การแต่งเครื่องแบบนักเรียนไม่ได้มีแต่ข้อดีอย่างเดียวยังมีข้อเสียอีก คือ การละเมิดเสรีภาพของในการแสดงออกของนักเรียน และสิทธิเหนือร่างกายของนักเรียนที่จะเลือกว่าสิ่งไหนเหมาะสม และน่าสนใจต่อเขา การแต่งเครื่องแบบนักเรียนเป็นการเพิ่มรายจ่ายให้กับผู้ปกครองในการซื้อเครื่องแบบนักเรียนอีกด้วย และการแต่งเครื่องแบบนักเรียนไม่ได้ลดการทะเลาะวิวาทลงซึ่งอาจจะเพิ่มให้มีการทะเลาะวิวาทมากขึ้นเห็นได้จากเด็กต่างสถาบันตีกัน โดยเด็กที่โดนลูกหลงคือเด็กที่อยู่คนละสถาบันซึ่งสังเกตได้จากเครื่องแบบนักเรียนที่สวมใส่
