ในงานวิจัยนี้ได้ทำการเลือกโปรเจคจากโครงการโอเพนซอร์ซ มา 2 โปรเจค คือ Android and OpenStack ได้ทำการศึกษา comment จาก Code review เพื่อที่จะหาข้อสรุปว่า Reviewre ได้ให้ความสนใจในการทำ refactoring หรือไม่ เนื่องจากกระบวนการ code review เป็นกิจกรรมหลักในการพัฒนา software ซึ่งจะเป็นสิ่งที่บ่งบอกถึงการมีคุณภาพของซอฟต์แวร์อีกด้วย ยิ่งนานไป software ก็ยิ่งมีความซับซ้อนเพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อยๆซึ่งถ้าเราไม่มีการจัดการความซับซ้อนเหล่านี้ก็อาจจะส่งผลเสียได้ในอนาคต สิ่งที่แอบซ่อนอยู่ในความซับซ้อนเหล่านั่นคือ code smell ผู้วิจัยจึงให้ความสนใจกับ code smell และได้มีการเลือก code smell มา 3 ประเภท ได้แก่ Duplicated Code,Long Parameter List และ Feature Envy เหตุผลในการเลือก 3 ประเภทนี้มา คือ จากงานวิจัยอื่นๆได้มีการกล่าวถึง code smell ประเภทนี้ จึงอยากจะทำการศึกษาว่าในโครงการโอเพนซอร์ซ 2 โปรเจคที่เลือกมามีความสัมพันธ์มาน้อยแค่ไหนใน 2 โปรเจคนี้ แต่ในความเป็นจริงในการ comment จะไม่ได้ใช้คำเหล่านี้โดยตรง จึงมีการใช้ LDA มาช่วยในการจัดกลุ่มคำที่มีความเหมาะสมเข้าใน code smell 3 ประเภทข้างต้น
