ประวัติวัดสวนหินผานางคอย ตั้งอยู่หลังเขาบ้านดงนา ตำบลหนามแท่ง อำเภอศรีเมืองใหม่ จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ติดกับริมแม่น้ำโขงไทย – ลาว สร้างเมื่อพ.ศ. ๒๔๘๓ หลังจากตั้งหมู่บ้านดงนา มาประมาณ ๘ ปี ซึ่งในปี พ.ศ.๒๔๗๔ นายแวง ขันธิวัตร ได้ย้ายถิ่นฐานมาจากบ้านหนามแท่ง ตำบลหนามแท่ง อำเภอศรีเมืองใหม่ จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี มาตั้งบ้านเรือนอยู่ที่บ้านดงนาปัจจุบัน ต่อมาได้ขยายบ้านเรือนขึ้นเป็นหมู่บ้าน ทางราชการจึงได้แต่งตั้งให้นายแวง ขันธิวัตร เป็นผู้ใหญ่บ้าน โดยในสมัยนั้นเป็นอำเภอโขงเจียม จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ปัจจุบัน ขึ้นต่ออำเภอศรีเมืองใหม่
ในปี พ.ศ.๒๔๘๓ นายแวงเป็นผู้ใหญ่บ้าน พร้อมด้วยราษฎรได้พากันพิจารณาหาที่ดินเพื่อสร้างวัด และได้เลือกบนยอดเขาที่เป็นลานหินมีหน้าผาสูงชัน มีชื่อว่า ผานางคอย จึงได้ตั้งชื่อวัดว่าวัดสวนหินผานางคอย ตั้งแต่บัดนั้นเป็นต้นมา ต่อมาปี พ.ศ.๒๕๓๓ พระอธิการพรหมมา เขมจาโรได้เข้ามาพำนักอาศัยและปฏิบัติธรรม จึงได้ทราบว่าวัดนี้เป็นเก่าแก่ไม่มีใครบูรณะซ่อมแซม และเป็นวัดที่ตกสำรวจไม่มีในทำเนียบของกรมการศาสนา จึงได้คิดริเริ่มดำเนินการขอขึ้นทะเบียนต่อกรมการศาสนา ผ่านเจ้าคณะตามลำดับ กรมการศาสนาได้นำวัดสวนหินผานางคอยขึ้นทะเบียนวัดเมื่อวันที่ ๙ กันยายน พ.ศ.๒๕๔๑ เสนาสนะสำคัญภายในวัด มี กุฏิหน้าถ้ำผานางคอย เป็นตึก ๒ ชั้นพร้อมห้องน้ำ ห้องสุขา สร้างด้วยคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ขนาดกว้าง ๑๒ เมตร ยาว ๑๒ เมตร ศาลากาญจนาภิเษก สร้างด้วยคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ๒ ชั้น ขนาดกว้าง ๑๕ เมตร ยาว ๒๕ เมตร กุฏิเจ้าอาวาส เป็นอาคารตึก ๒ ชั้น ขนาดกว้าง ๗ เมตร ยาว ๒๖ สร้างด้วยอาคารคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็กหลังคามุงกระเบื้อง หอระฆัง สร้างด้วยคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ๓ ชั้น ขนาดกว้าง ๔ เมตร กว้าง ๔ เมตร สูง ๑๖ เมตร หลังคาจัตุรมุขยอดบุษบก ประดับลวดลายไมย ติดตั้งชื่อฟ้าใบระกา หางหงส์ คันทวย อุโบสถ ขนาดกว้าง ๑๑.๓๐ เมตร กว้าง ๒๒.๘๐ เมตร สูง ๑๙ เมตร สร้างด้วยคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ที่พักญาติโยม และพระอคันตุกะ เป็นอาคาร ๓ ชั้น สร้างด้วย คอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก มีห้องน้ำจำนวน ๒๔ ห้อง มณฑป ขนาดกว้าง ๖ เมตร ยาว ๖ เมตร สูง ๑๖ เมตร หอรับเสด็จ ขนาดกว้าง ๒๕ เมตร กว้าง ๒๕ เมตร ทรงไทย
