1. กรณีที่คำพยางค์เดียวมีสระตัวเดียวและตามด้วยพยัญชนะตัวเดียว ให้เพิ่มพยัญชนะซ้ำก่อนเติม –er หรือ –est เช่น thin thinner, big biggest
2. กรณีที่คำพยางค์เดียวลงท้ายด้วย e ให้ตัด e ทิ้งก่อนเติม – er หรือ – est เช่น wide wider / widest
