ในช่วงเทศกาลออกพรรษา จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี จะมีงานประจำปีที่จัดกันอย่างต่อเนื่องยาวนาน คือประเพณีชักพระทอดผ้าป่าและแข่งขันเรือยาว หรือที่เรียกกันติดปากว่างานเดือนสิบเอ็ด ซึ่งประเพณีนี้ถือปฏิบัติกันในหลายๆจังหวัดในภาคใต้ แต่ที่จัดกันอย่างยิ่งใหญ่เป็นงานประจำจังหวัด และมีชื่อเสียงที่สุดก็ต้องประเพณีชักพระทอดผ้าป่าจังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี
