การศึกษาของเวียดนาม
ปัจจุบันเวียดนามแบ่งลักษณะของการจัดการศึกษาไว้ 5 ลักษณะ คือ
1. การศึกษาระดับก่อนประถมศึกษา (Pre-School Education)
ประกอบด้วยการเลี้ยงดูเด็ก สำหรับเด็กอายุ 6 เดือนถึง 3 ปี และอนุบาลสำหรับเด็กอายุ 3-5 ปี
2. การศึกษาสามัญ (5 - 4 – 3)
• ระดับประถมศึกษาเป็นการศึกษาภาคบังคับ 5 ปี ชั้น 1-5
• ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น คือชั้น 6-9
• ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย คือชั้น 10-12
3. การศึกษาด้านเทคนิคและอาชีพ มีเทียบเคียงทั้งระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นและตอนปลาย
4. การศึกษาระดับอุดมศึกษา แบ่งเป็นระดับอนุปริญญา (Associate degree) และระดับปริญญา
5. การศึกษาต่อเนื่อง เป็นการศึกษาสำหรับประชาชนที่พลาดโอกาสการศึกษาในระบบสายสามัญและสายอาชีพ

การศึกษาสามัญ 12 ปี (General Education) ของเวียดนามนั้นเวียดนามมีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะ ให้ประชาชนได้มีวิญญาณในความเป็นสังคมนิยม มีเอกลักษณ์ประจำชาติ และมีความสามารถในด้านอาชีพ

ในอดีตการศึกษาสามัญของเวียดนามมีเพียง 10 ปีเท่านั้น และไม่มีอนุบาลศึกษามาก่อนจนถึงปีการศึกษา 2532 - 2533 จึงมีการศึกษาถึงชั้นปีที่ 9 ทั้งประเทศ ซึ่งได้เรียกการศึกษาสามัญ 9 ปี ดังกล่าวนี้ว่าการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน (Basic Education) และเมื่อได้ขยายไปถึงปีที่ 12 แล้วจึงได้เรียกการศึกษาสามัญ 3 ปีสุดท้ายว่า มัธยมชั้นสูง (Upper Secondary School) ปี 2535-2536 ระบบการศึกษาสามัญในเวียดนามจึงกลายเป็นระบบ 12 ชั้นเรียนทั้งประเทศ โดยเด็กที่เข้าเรียนในชั้นปีที่ 1 จะมีอายุย่างเข้าปีที่ 6

เมื่อเวียดนามได้ใช้ระบบการศึกษาเป็น 12 ปีแล้ว จำนวนนักเรียนในทุกระดับชั้นยังมีน้อย ดังนั้นปี 2534 สภาแห่งชาติของเวียดนามจึงได้ออกกฎหมายการกระจายการศึกษาระดับประถมศึกษา (Law of Universal Primary Education) ซึ่งถือเป็นกฎหมายฉบับแรกว่าด้วยการศึกษาของเวียดนาม
