 “น้ำตกแสงจันทร์” “น้ำตกรู”  “น้ำตกลงรู”  หรือ “น้ำตกลอดรู” คือหลากหลายชื่อเรียกน้ำตกแห่งหนึ่งซึ่งมีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังที่สุดในอุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม ด้วยความสวยงามระคนปนกับความแปลกประหลาดของสายน้ำที่ไหลทะลุผ่านรูของแผ่นหินทรายขนาดใหญ่ลงสู่แอ่งเบื้องล่างดุจดั่งฝักบัวซึ่งธรรมชาติสรรค์สร้างนี่เองที่ดึงดูดให้นักท่องเที่ยวมากมายเดินทางแวะเวียนมาเยี่ยมชมตลอดช่วงฤดูฝน – ต้นฤดูหนาว เป็นอีกหนึ่งสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวทางธรรมชาติซึ่งไม่ควรพลาดในโปรแกรมการท่องเที่ยวย่านอุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม จ.อุบลราชธานี

     “น้ำตกแสงจันทร์” เป็นปรากฏการณ์ซึ่งเกิดขึ้นจากการที่สายน้ำไหลมาพบกับสิ่งกีดขวางซึ่งมีลักษณะเป็นแผ่นหินทรายขนาดใหญ่ (คล้ายๆกับหลังคาของเพิงหมาแหงน) ที่วางตัวเป็นมุมเงยต้านกับเส้นทางการไหลของสายน้ำทำให้เกิดกระแสน้ำไหลเป็นวังวนรูปก้นหอย นานวันเข้ากระแสน้ำวนนี้ก็ค่อยๆกัดกร่อนแผ่นหินทรายลงลึกขึ้นๆกลายเป็นแอ่งรูปทรงกลมจนกระทั่งทะลุผ่านแผ่นหินกลายเป็น “น้ำตกรู” “น้ำตกลงรู”  หรือ “น้ำตกแสงจันทร์” ที่เรารู้จักกันในที่สุด คุณสามารถสังเกตเห็นร่องรอยของปรากฏการณ์ธรรมชาติในอดีตนี้ได้เพียงเดินจากลานจอดรถไปทางทิศใต้ห่างจากทางลงน้ำตกแค่ประมาณ 15 เมตร ก็จะพบกับเพิงผาซึ่งมีสายน้ำไหลวนเวียนผ่านรูหินกลมทิ้งตัวลงสู่เบื้องล่าง (จุดชมทิวทัศน์นี้ คือ ด้านบนของน้ำตกลงรูนั่นเอง)
สำหรับชื่อ “น้ำตกแสงจันทร์” นั้น เป็นชื่อเรียกตามลักษณะของสายธารน้ำตกที่โปรยละอองผ่านช่องหินลงมาเป็นสีขาวนวลคล้ายแสงจันทร์โดยเฉพาะคืนวันเพ็ญเวลาเที่ยงคืนแสงจันทร์จะสาดส่องลงมาตรงรูหินพอดีพร้อมกับละอองของธารน้ำตกที่โปรยดูเป็นประกายสีนวลสวยงามมาก แต่จากการสังเกตของทีมงานท่องเที่ยวดอทคอม (www.thongteaw.com) พบว่าในช่วงเที่ยงวันนั้น “น้ำตกแสงจันทร์” ก็มีความงดงามของแสงเงาดุจดั่งจันทราสะท้อนอยู่บนผืนน้ำเช่นเดียวกัน โดยคุณจะสังเกตเห็นแสงอาทิตย์ที่สาดส่องผ่านรูของเพิงหินหักเหผ่านกลุ่มละอองของน้ำตก ลงสู่พื้นน้ำเบื้องล่างสะท้อนออกมาเป็นแสงสีขาวแกมเงินส่งประกายวาบไหววิบวับ ต่างจากแสงแดดซึ่งไม่ได้หักเหผ่านรูของน้ำตกจะสะท้อนพื้นน้ำออกเป็นสีเหลืองนวลแกมน้ำตาล (เปรียบเทียบแสงสีที่สะท้อนบนผืนน้ำได้โดยดูจากภาพประกอบบทความครับ)
