แบบจำลองที่ใช้ในการศึกษานี้ ได้พัฒนามาจากแบบจำลอง dynamic general equilibrium model เพื่อใช้ศึกษาผลกระทบจากความผันผวนของราคาน้ำมันในตลาดโลกที่มีต่อเศรษฐกิจมหภาคของประเทศไทย และจากแบบจำลองของการศึกษาสามารถแสดงได้ ดังนี้ สมมุติว่าราคาน้ำมันในตลาดโลกมีความผันผวนสูงมากขึ้นเท่ากับ 1 หน่วย ค่าความเบี่ยงเบน (standard deviation) ของราคาน้ำมันดิบในตลาดโลกแล้ว จะส่งผลกระทบต่อระบบเศรษฐกิจมหภาค ดังนี้
