Scene member Zecoxao showcased a PS4 Devkit unit allegedly running a backup of game Minecraft (Video below). Understand “backup” here as a signed version of the game that the console shouldn’t in theory have the rights to run.
Zecoxao hasn’t shared much details on how this is achieved, but explained this is a patch of the params.sfo file. He mentions the devkit unit needs to be activated. In other words, you have to be a legit dev on PS4 to even attempts that. The trick apparently works up to firmwares 3.xx, but Sony updated some of their keys on 4.00. I know several people on the scene have access to such devices, but for the general audience this probably won’t be helpful, not at this point at least.
The demo comes a few days after Zecoxao shared a tutorial on how to decrypt PS4’s user modules on 1.76, which I assume is related to this.
Furthermore, Zecoxao has shared a few downloads he says will be useful to people looking into PS4 exploits. The downloads seem to be decrypted versions of libkernel, as well as the Webkit source code (I have to assume the same version that is running on PS4?).
I assume any progress is good progress, although it is unclear to me 1) how much this actually helps people on retail units and 2) if there’s any information in here that hackers didn’t already have.
