ประวัติวันฉัตรมงคล

วันฉัตรมงคล (Coronation Day) เป็นวันที่ระลึกในการครบรอบปี ที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดชทรงรับพระบรมราชาภิเษก เป็นพระมหากษัตริย์แห่งประเทศไทยโดยสมบูรณ์ กล่าวคือ พระองค์ได้เสด็จขึ้นครองราชสมบัติต่อจากสมเด็จพระบรมเชษฐาธิราช พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวอานันทมหิดล เมื่อวันที่ 9 มิถุนายน พ.ศ.2489 แล้วเสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปทรงศึกษาอยู่ ณ ทวีปยุโรป จนกระทั่งทรงบรรลุนิติภาวะ แล้วจึงได้เสด็จนิวัติประเทศไทย และรัฐบาลไทย ได้น้อมเกล้าฯ จัดพระราชพิธีบรมราชาภิเษกถวาย เมื่อวันที่ 5 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ.2493 เหล่าพสกนิกรชาวไทย ได้ถือเอา วันที่ 5 พฤษภาคมของทุกปี เป็น วันฉัตรมงคล รำลึก

ประวัติความเป็นมาของการจัดพิธีบรมราชาภิเษก
การจัดพิธีบรมราชาภิเษก เป็นพิธีที่จัดต้อนรับ หรือ รับรองฐานะความเป็นประมุขของสังคมอย่างเป็นกิจจะ ลักษณะ ซึ่งมีมาแต่ครั้งพ่อขุนผาเมือง ได้อภิเษกพ่อขุนบางกลางหาว หรือพ่อขุนบางกลางท่าว ให้เป็นผู้ปกครองเมืองสุโขทัย ดังปรากฏในหลักฐานในศิลาจารึกวัดศรีชุมของพญาลิไท

ในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช ทรงสถาปนากรุงรัตนโกสินทร์เป็นราชธานี พระองค์ได้ทรงฟื้นฟูวัฒนธรรมของชาติทุกสาขา โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง การฟื้นฟูพระราชพิธีบรมราชาภิเษกให้ถูกต้องสมบูรณ์

พระมหากษัตริย์ที่ยังมิได้ทรงประกอบพระราชพิธีบรมราชาภิเษก จะไม่ใช้คำว่า “พระบาท” นำหน้า “สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว” และคำสั่งของพระองค์ก็ไม่เรียกว่า “พระบรมราชโองการ” และที่สำคัญประการหนึ่งคือ จะยังไม่มีการใช้ นพปฎลเศวตฉัตร หรือฉัตร 9 ชั้น

ในรัชกาลพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช ได้ทรงประกอบพระราชพิธีบรมราชาภิเษกตามแบบอย่างโบราณ ในวันที่ 4 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ.2493 เป็นวันจุดเทียนชัย และวันที่ 5 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ.2493 อันเป็นวันประกอบพระราชพิธีบรมราชาภิเษก

สำหรับขั้นตอนของพิธีที่สำคัญต่างๆ แบ่งออกเป็น 5 ลำดับ ดังนี้

พระราชพิธีที่ประกอบขึ้นก่อนวันพระฤกษ์บรมราชาภิเษก
1. ขั้นเตรียมพิธี

มีการตักน้ำและตั้งพิธีเสกน้ำสำหรับถวายเป็นน้ำอภิเษก และน้ำสรงมูรธาภิเษก สำหรับน้ำอภิเษกนั้น ต้นตำราให้ใช้น้ำจากสถานที่สำคัญต่างๆ 18 แห่ง และทำพิธีเสกน้ำพระพุทธมนต์ ณ พุทธเจดีย์ที่สำคัญตามจังหวัดต่างๆ ทั่วราชอาณาจักร แล้วส่งเข้ามาเจือปนเป็นน้ำมูรธาภิเษก ให้พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวสรง และทรงรับน้ำอภิเษกในวันพระราชพิธีราชาอภิเษกต่อไป

น้ำสำหรับมูรธาภิเษกเป็นน้ำที่เจือด้วยน้ำจากปัญจมหานทีในอินเดีย คือ แม่น้ำคงคา ยมนา อิรวดี สรภู มหิ และจากปัญจสุทธคงคา ในแม่น้ำสำคัญทั้ง 5 ของไทย คือ

นอกจากนี้ยังมีพิธีจารึกพระสุพรรณบัฎดวงพระบรมราชสมภพ (ดวงเกิด) และแกะพระราชลัญจกร (ดวงตราประจำรัชกาล) โดยได้มีการประกอบพิธีจารึกพระสุพรรณบัฎในวันที่ 23 เมษายน พ.ศ.2493 ในพระอุโบสถวัดพระศรีศาสดาราม

ในวันที่ 5 พฤษภาคม อันเป็นวันประกอบพระราชพิธีบรมราชาภิเษก พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวสรงมูรธาภิเษก แล้วทรงเครื่องต้นเสด็จออกประทับเหนือพระที่นั่งอัฐทิศภายใต้สตปฎลเศวตฉัตร (ฉัตร 7 ชั้น)
