การเลือกแดน/เลือกเสิร์ฟ[แก้]
ผู้ตัดสินจะโยนเหรียญเพื่อตัดสินหาผู้ชนะ ซึ่งจะได้เลือก 1 ใน 3 ตัวเลือกต่อไปนี้

เลือกเสิร์ฟหรือรับเสิร์ฟก่อนในเกมแรก โดยคู่แข่งจะได้เลือกแดนแทน
เลือกแดนในเกมแรก โดยคู่แข่งจะได้เลือกเสิร์ฟหรือรับเสิร์ฟในเกมแรกแทน
เลือกให้คู่แข่งเป็นฝ่ายเลือก 1 ใน 2 ข้อด้านบน
การเสิร์ฟ[แก้]
การเสิร์ฟ (serving) คือ การตีส่งบอลครั้งแรกของคะแนนนั้นๆไปให้คู่แข่ง ประเภทผู้เล่นเดี่ยวจะผลัดกันเสิร์ฟฝ่ายละ 1 เกมไปเรื่อยๆ ส่วนในการเล่นประเภทคู่ ผู้เล่นทั้งสองคนในฝ่ายเดียวกันจะต้องผลัดเสิร์ฟคนละ 1 เกมด้วย (ฝ่ายหนึ่งผลัดเสิร์ฟในเกมคี่ ฝ่ายหนึ่งผลัดเสิร์ฟในเกมคู่)
การเสิร์ฟ โยนบอลและตีกลางอากาศ
การเสิร์ฟ ห้ามเดิน วิ่ง หรือเคลื่อนที่ไปมาขณะเสิร์ฟ (foot fault) ยกเว้นเท้าเคลื่อนที่เล็กน้อย ส่วนฝ่ายรับจะยืนบริเวณใดก็ได้ในฝ่ายของตน

การเสิร์ฟ จะต้องเสิร์ฟโดยสลับฝั่งขวา/ซ้ายของเส้นเสิร์ฟกลางไปทุกคะแนน กล่าวคือ ในเกมทั่วไปเริ่มเสิร์ฟคะแนนแรกที่ด้านหลังสนามด้านขวาของเส้นเสิร์ฟกลาง(ด้าน Deuce court) และในคะแนนถัดไปต้องสลับไปเสิร์ฟที่หลังสนามด้านซ้ายของเส้นเสิร์ฟกลาง(ด้าน Advantage court)
การเสิร์ฟเมื่อเล่นเกมไทเบรก(โปรดดูที่ไทเบรก) ฝ่ายแรกจะเสิร์ฟแค่คะแนนที่ 1 ก่อน จากหลังสนามด้านขวาของเส้นเสิร์ฟกลาง(ด้าน Deuce court) และต่อจากนี้จะผลัดการเสิร์ฟฝ่ายละ 2 คะแนนไปเรื่อยๆสลับกัน โดยตั้งแต่คะแนนที่ 2 จะให้อีกฝ่ายเริ่มเสิร์ฟจากหลังสนามด้านซ้ายของเส้นเสิร์ฟกลาง(ด้าน Advantage court) และต้องสลับด้านเสิร์ฟซ้าย/ขวาไปทุก 1 คะแนนเช่นกัน หากเล่นประเภทคู่ก็ต้องสลับกันเสิร์ฟคนละ 2 คะแนนเช่นกัน
การเสิร์ฟจะต้องเสิร์ฟให้บอลลงในกรอบพื้นที่เสิร์ฟ (service box) ของฝ่ายตรงข้ามในแนวทแยง เช่น กรณีเราเสิร์ฟจากด้านซ้าย ลูกเสิร์ฟจะต้องไปตกในกรอบพื้นที่เสิร์ฟด้านซ้ายของฝ่ายตรงข้ามด้วยเช่นกัน(ด้านขวามือเรา) เป็นต้น
เสิร์ฟเล็ต (let) จะต้องทำการเสิร์ฟลูกนั้นใหม่ ได้แก่ การเสิร์ฟโดยที่ลูกสัมผัสตาข่ายแล้วตกลงในกรอบพื้นที่เสิร์ฟที่ถูกต้องในแนวทแยง หรือลูกสัมผัสตาข่ายแล้วไปโดนผู้เล่นฝั่งตรงข้ามโดยที่ลูกยังไม่ตกพื้น หรือการเสิร์ฟเมื่อผู้เล่นฝ่ายตรงข้ามยังไม่พร้อม ยกเว้นการเสิร์ฟที่ลูกสัมผัสตาข่ายแล้วตกนอกกรอบพื้นที่เสิร์ฟที่ถูกต้องจะถือว่าลูกนั้นเสียทันที (fault)
การเสิร์ฟ มีสิทธิ์เสิร์ฟได้คะแนนละ 2 ครั้ง หากเสิร์ฟครั้งแรกเสีย จะต้องเสิร์ฟครั้งที่ 2 และหากเป็นการเสียของลูกเสิร์ฟครั้งที่ 2 ของคะแนนนั้น(double fault) จะต้องเสียคะแนนนั้นให้คู่แข่งด้วย
การตีลูกกลับ[แก้]
เมื่อลูกข้ามตาข่ายมาแล้ว สามารถตีลูกกลับไปในแดนคู่แข่ง โดยที่ลูกบอลอาจจะยังไม่กระทบพื้นสนามเลยก็ได้ หรือลูกกระทบพื้นสนามฝ่ายของเรามาแล้วไม่เกิน 1 ครั้งก็ได้
ต้องตีลูกบอลกลับภายในครั้งเดียว
การตีลูกบอลกลับแล้วลูกสัมผัสตาข่ายข้ามไปยังฝั่งตรงข้ามไม่ถือว่าผิดกติกา
ผู้เล่นฝ่ายใดไม่สามารถตีลูกบอลกลับไปยังแดนของฝ่ายตรงข้ามได้โดยถูกกติกา จะต้องเสียคะแนนนั้นให้คู่แข่ง
การสลับแดน[แก้]
การสลับแดน สลับแดนเมื่อเกมรวมกันเป็นเลขคี่และเมื่อจบเซ็ต แต่หากจบเซ็ตโดยเกมรวมกันเป็นเลขคู่ จะสลับแดนหลังจากจบเกมแรกของเซ็ตถัดไป ส่วนการสลับแดนในการเล่นไทเบรกจะสลับเมื่อคะแนนรวมกันได้ทุก 6 คะแนน
