ใช้กับเหตุการณ์สมมุติที่ตรงข้ามกับความเป็นจริงในอดีต ความเป็นจริงในอดีต :

You didn’t go to the party last night.

You didn’t meet your girlfriend.

สิ่งสมมุติ : If you had gone to the party last night , you would have met your girlfriend.

( = Had you gone to the party last night, you would have met your girlfriend.)

(การละรูป if)ความเป็นจริงในอดีต : I didn’t pass the exam last semester. I didn’t study hard.

สิ่งสมมุติ : I would have passed the exam last smester if I had studied hard.

(= Had I studied hard , I would have passed the exam last semester.)

ความเป็นจริงในอดีต : My wife was so angry with me. I forgot that yesterday was her birthday.
