Jerry is determined, persistent, and slightly hot-headed. Jerry constantly trains and continues to work at things that take incredible amounts of effort. Jerry never gives up and even if he does he receives a sudden impulse and acts on his impulse. Jerry seems hot-headed because he never fully considers consequences greatly. He sneaks off from his mother and never asks her for any help with anything that he is doing. When he decides to swim through the tunnel he weighs the risk of death, yet chooses to swim through because he feels that it is something he needs to do. Understandably he wants to swim through the tunnel, but the risk of death should cause him to wait for the next summer. It seems arrogant and stupid to make this major decision on the spot and he almost ended up paying for it.
