ประเพณีกองข้าว เทศบาลเมืองศรีราชา เป็นประเพณีท้องถิ่นของ
จังหวัดชลบุรีโดยแท้ที่สืบต่อๆกันมาตามประวัติ เล่าว่าประเพณี
กองข้าวจัดในหลายอำเภอ อาทิเช่น อำเภอเมืองชลบุรี
อำเภอศรีราชา อำเภอบางละมุง อำเภอพนัสนิคม ฯลฯ
ครั้นกาลเวลาล่วงเลยผ่านไปในบางพื้นที่ประเพณีได้เลือนหายไป
ที่ศรีราชายังคงอนุรักษ์ไว้อย่างต่อเนื่องและเหนียวแน่น
จนกระทั่งกลายเป็นประเพณีเอกลักษณ์ของชาวศรีราชา
โดยเฉพาะเมื่อ เทศบาลเมืองศรีราชาและการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย
ร่วมกันจัดงานกองข้าวศรีราชา เริ่มแต่ปี 2536 เป็นต้นมา
โดยกำหนดจัดงานประเพณีระหว่างวันที่ 29– 21 เมษายนของทุกปี ในอดีตเมื่อถึงช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ศรีมหาราชา
ของทุกปีชาวบ้านจะนัดหมายกันมานำสำรับข้าวปลาอาหารทั้งคาวหวานมากองรวมกันและเชิญภูติผีทั้งหลายมากินปีละครั้ง
โดยเชื่อว่าภูติผีจะไม่มาทำอันตรายชีวิตครอบครัวหรือทรัพย์สินของตนเองหลังพิธีเซ่นไหว้ชาวบ้านจะล้อมวงรับประทานอาหาร
ร่วมกันมีการร้องรำทำเพลง การละเล่นสนุกสานมีเคล็ดว่าทุกคนจะไม่นำอาหารที่เหลือกลับบ้าน แต่จะทิ้งไว้เป็นทานแก่สัตว์การ
จัดงานประเพณีกองข้าวเป็นการสนับสนุนส่งเสริมฟื้นฟูอนุรักษ์ประเพณีของท้องถิ่น ปัจจุบันเทศบาลเมืองศรีราชาได้ผนวก
งานสงกรานต์เข้ารวมเป็นงานเดียวกัน และให้ชื่อว่า “ งานสงกรานต์ศรีมหาราชาและประเพณีกองข้าว ” โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์
เพื่อเผยแพร่ศิลปวัฒนธรรมรณรงค์ให้เด็กเยาวชนและประชาชน ได้เกิดจิตสำนึกในความเป็นคนไทยที่มีเอกลักษณ์์และ
ขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีการแต่งกายที่ดี ให้ดำรงสืบทอดต่อไปและเป็นการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวไทยด้วย
