พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ สวรรควรนายก ต

พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ สวรรควรนายก ตั้งอยู่บนถนนประชาราษฎร์ ตรงข้ามกับวัดสวรรคาราม ในเขตเทศบาลเมืองสวรรคโลก อำเภอสวรรคโลก จังหวัดสุโขทัย ห่างจากตัวจังหวัดสุโขทัยประมาณ ๔๐ กิโลเมตร ก่อตั้งขึ้นตามเจตนารมณ์ของพระสวรรควรนายก อดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัดสวรรคาราม และเจ้าคณะจังหวัดสวรรคโลก ที่ต้องการยกศิลปวัตถุโบราณวัตถุที่สะสมไว้ให้เป็นสมบัติของชาติเมื่อท่านมรณภาพลงโดยให้จัดตั้งเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ขึ้นภายในบริเวณวัดสวรรคาราม

ภายหลังจากที่ท่านเจ้าคุณสวรรควรนายกได้มรณภาพไปในปี พ.ศ.๒๕๐๘ คณะกรรมการวัดและศิษยานุศิษย์ได้ประชุมหารือเนื่องจากไม่พบพินัยกรรมมอบหมายให้ผู้ใดดำเนินการแต่อย่างใด และตกลงมอบศิลปวัตถุโบราณวัตถุเหล่านี้ให้แก่กรมศิลปากร และขอให้สร้างพิพิธภัณฑสถานขึ้นในเขตของวัดตามความประสงค์ของท่านเจ้าคุณสวรรควรนายก รวมทั้งได้จัดสรรที่ดินส่วนหนึ่งจำนวน ๗ ไร่ ๑ งาน ๑๑ ตารางวา เพื่อใช้ในการก่อสร้าง กรมศิลปากรได้รับงบประมาณในการก่อสร้างอาคารเป็นจำนวนเงิน ๑,๒๐๐,๐๐๐ บาท โดยมีนายเมธี คันธโร จากกองสถาปัตยกรรม กรมศิลปากร เป็นผู้ออกแบบอาคาร รวมทั้งยังจัดซื้อที่ดินเพิ่มเติมจากชาวบ้านในละแวกนั้นอีกจำนวน ๑๔ ไร่ จึงมีเนื้อที่ทั้งหมด ๒๑ ไร่ ๑ งาน ๑๑ ตารางวา แต่เมื่อการก่อสร้างแล้วเสร็จก็ยังไม่สามารถนำศิลปวัตถุ โบราณวัตถุ มาจากวัดสวรรคารามได้เนื่องจากเกิดความขัดแย้งบางประการ

จนเมื่อพระครูวินัยธร (ยิ้ม) เจ้าอาวาสวัดมรณภาพลงในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๔ พระครูธรรมนิเทศ รองเจ้าคณะอำเภอสวรรคโลก รักษาการในตำแหน่งเจ้าอาวาสวัดสวรรคารามในขณะนั้นจึงดำเนินการตรวจสอบโบราณวัตถุศิลปวัตถุทั้งหมดอีกครั้ง และมีหนังสือมอบให้กรมศิลปากรเก็บรักษาเมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๒๔ โดยมีนายขุนทอง ภูผิวเดือน รัฐมนตรีช่วยว่าการกระทรวงศึกษาธิการเป็นผู้รับมอบ เมื่อรับมอบโบราณวัตถุศิลปวัตถุแล้ว กรมศิลปากร ได้มอบหมายให้กองพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติดำเนินการจัดแสดงนิทรรศการโดยมีนายสุกิจ เที่ยงมณีกุล ภัณฑารักษ์งานวิชาการและคณะทำงานเป็นผู้รับผิดชอบ ซึ่งยังได้เคลื่อนย้ายโบราณวัตถุบางส่วนจากพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ รามคำแหง โบราณวัตถุที่ได้จากการสำรวจ ขุดค้นและขุดแต่งทางโบราณคดีบริเวณเมืองศรีสัชนาลัย โบราณวัตถุประเภทเครื่องถ้วยสังคโลกที่ได้จากแหล่งเรืออับปางในอ่าวไทย และที่ได้รับมอบจากประชาชนมาจัดแสดงไว้ร่วมกันเพื่อแสดงถึงหลักฐานแห่งความเจริญรุ่งเรืองของบ้านเมืองที่ชัดเจนยิ่งขึ้น

พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ สวรรควรนายก เปิดอย่างทางการเมื่อวันที่ ๑๕ มีนาคม ๒๕๒๗ โดยกรมศิลปากรได้กราบบังคมทูลเชิญสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี เพื่อทรงพระกรุณาเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเป็นประธานเปิด และเพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์แด่พระสวรรควรนายกผู้อุทิศโบราณวัตถุศิลปวัตถุให้เป็นสมบัติของชาติ และมีจิตใจแห่งการอนุรักษ์มรดกของแผ่นดินจึงได้ตั้งชื่อพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาตินี้ว่า “พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ สวรรควรนายก”
