ประเพณีถวายผ้าอาบน้ำฝน (ก่อนเข้าพรรษา)

พอดีกับนางวิสาขามหาอุบสิกาสั่งให้นางทาสีไปนิมนต์ภิกษุมารับภัตตาหารที่บ้านของตน เมื่อนางทาสีไปถึงที่วัดเห็นภิกษุเปลื้องผ้าสรงสนานกาย ก็เข้าใจว่า ในอารามมีแต่พวกชีเปลือย (อาชีวกนอกพระพุทธศาสนา) ไม่มีภิกษุอยู่จึงกลับบ้าน ส่วนนางวิสาขานั้นเป็นสตรีที่ฉลาดรู้แจ้งในเหตุการณ์ทั้งปวง เมื่อถวายภัตตาหารแก่พระสงฆ์มีพระพุทธเจ้าเป็นประมุขในวันนั้นแล้ว จึงได้โอกาสอันควรทูลขอพร 8 ประการต่อพระศาสดา

พระศาสดาทรงอนุญาตพร 8 ประการคือ
