บทคัดย่อ
การศึกษาวิจัยเรื่อง ความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อเพิ่มผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนของนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏบุรีรัมย์ มีวัตถุประสงค์อยู่ 2 ประการคือ 1.เพื่อพัฒนาทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏบุรีรัมย์2.เพื่อเพิ่มผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนให้สูงขึ้นของนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏบุรีรมย์ โดยรวบรวมข้อมูลจากการแจกแบบสอบถาม และจากการทำแบบทดสอบจำนวน 100 ราย โดยมีเนื้อหาครอบคลุมประเด็นที่เกี่ยวกับวัตถุประสงค์ทั้งสองประเด็น ผลการศึกษาพบว่า

1. ข้อมูลทั่วไปของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถาม พบว่า ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามเกินครึ่งหนึ่งเป็นเพศหญิง (ร้อยละ56.0) อายุ ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามเกือบทั้งหมด อายุระหว่าง18 – 19 ปี (ร้อยละ69.0) จบการศึกษาชั้นมัธยมตอนปลาย ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามเกินครึ่งหนึ่งเป็นโรงเรียน (สพฐ) (ร้อยละ87.0) วุฒิการศึกษาสูงสุด ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามเกือบทั้งหมดต่ำกว่าปริญญาตรี (ร้อยละ95.0) สาขาวิชา ที่สังกัด ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามหนึ่งในสี่สาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ ร้อยละ (23.0)รองลงมาคือสาขาวิชาภาษาไทย (ร้อยละ 15.0)และสาขาวิชาบรรณารักษศาสตร์และสารสนเทศศาสตร์กับสาขาวิชารัฐประศาสนศาสตร์ (ร้อยละ 9.0)
2. ความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อเพิ่มผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนของนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏบุรีรัมย์ พบว่านักศึกษาสามารถใช้ห้องปฏิบัติการทางภาษา (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.73) นักศึกษาได้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษกับอาจารย์ชาวต่างชาติ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.38) นักศึกษามีโอกาสได้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษในชั้นเรียน (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.36) นักศึกษามีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมส่งเสริมการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษต่างๆ เช่น กิจกรรมค่ายภาษาอังกฤษ ชมรมภาษอังกฤษเป็นต้น (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.38) นักศึกษาได้ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในชีวิตปรำวัน เช่น บ้าน โรงเรียน เป็นต้น (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.39) นักศึกษาอ่านออกเสียงไม่ถูกต้องตามหลักภาษาศาสตร์ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.27) นักศึกษาขาดการฝึกฝนทักษะด้านการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.31) นักศึกษาคุ้นเคยในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษในรูปแบบของภาษาไทย(ค่าเฉลี่ย3.32) นักศึกษามีโอกาสอ่านภาษาอังกฤษในชั้นเรียนน้อยที่สุด (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.26) นักศึกษาอ่านนิทาน การ์ตูนนิตยสารภาษาอังกฤษ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.40) นักศึกษาชอบสนทนากับชาวต่างชาติ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.36) นักศึกษาชอบเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษด้วยตัวเอง (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.33) นักศึกษาเขินอายเมื่อต้องการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษต่อหน้าชาวต่างชาติ เพื่อน หรือครูอาจารย์ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.29) นักศึกษาขาดความมั่นใจในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.36) นักศึกษารู้สึกเบื่อหน่ายในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ (ค่าเฉลี่ย3.28)
3. การเพิ่มผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนให้สูงขึ้นของนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏบุรีรมย์ พบว่า ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามไม่ได้เรียนกบอาจารย์เจ้าของภาษา (ร้อยละ81.0) นักศึกษารู้สึกเขินอายเมื่อต้องอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ (ร้อยละ78.0) ผู้เรียนไม่ได้เรียนสายภาษาอังกฤษมาโดยตรง (ร้อยละ77.0) ผู้เรียนไม่สามารถหารายละเอียดและสรุปใจความสำคัญจากเรื่องที่อ่านได้ (ร้อยละ71.0) ผู้เรียนไม่มีนิสัยรักการอ่านจึงส่งผลให้ผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษต่ำกว่าเกณฑ์การประเมินของสถานศึกษา (ร้อยล่ะ70.0)
4. ข้อเสนอแนะเชิงนโยบาย แม้กระทรวงศึกษาธิการบังคับให้ทุกคนเรียนภาษาอังกฤษอยู่ในหลักสูตรการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน แต่ก็ยังมีนักศึกษาจำนวนมากที่พูดภาษาอังกฤษหรือไม่สามารถสื่อสารด้วยภาษาอังกฤษไม่ได้ ทั้ง ๆ ที่รวมเวลาในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษแล้ว ส่วนใหญ่ไม่ต่ำกว่า 10 ปี หรือแม้แต่ผู้ที่จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรี หรือแม้กระทั่งปริญญาโทยังมีจำนวนไม่น้อยที่ไม่สามารถสื่อสารกับชาวต่างชาติได้ มีหลากหลายวิธีที่เสนอแนะแนวทางในการแก้ปัญหาภาษาอังกฤษของเด็กไทย เช่น การสอนให้นักเรียนรู้คำศัพท์จำนวนมาก เพราะปัญหานักเรียนรู้ศัพท์น้อยนั้นเป็นสาเหตุสำคัญโดยตรงต่อผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ และยังก่อให้เกิดปัญหาต่อเนื่องอีกหลายอย่างตามมา
