สำหรับชาวเลหรือชาวบ้านที่ใช้ชีวิตตามชายฝั่งทะเล เรือประมงที่ใช้ออกหาปลามีความสำคัญต่อชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของชาวเล  ชาวอูรักลาโวยหรือชาวเลในเขตจังหวัดกระบี่และจังหวัดใกล้เคียงมีประเพณีเกี่ยวกับเรือที่เรียกว่า ประเพณีลอยเรือ หรือพิธีลอยเรือในวันขึ้น ๑๓ –๑๕ ค่ำ เดือน ๖ และเดือน ๑๑ จัดขึ้นเพื่อเป็นการสะเดาะเคราะห์ให้กับคนในหมู่บ้าน ชุมชน

ตลอด ๓ วันในช่วงวันประเพณีลอยเรือจะมีพิธีการต่างๆ เกิดขึ้นมากมาย เริ่มจากในช่วงเช้าของวันขึ้น ๑๓ ค่ำ  ชาวเลจะเดินทางไปยังบริเวณที่จะทำพิธี โดยฝ่ายชายจะสร้างและซ่อมที่พักชั่วคราวขึ้นในขณะที่ฝ่ายหญิงจะช่วยกันทำขนม หลังจากนั้นในช่วงเย็นทุกคนจะมาร่วมกันที่ศาลบรรพบุรุษเพื่อนำอาหารไปเซ่นไหว้บรรพบุรุษเพื่อเป็นการบอกกล่าวให้บรรพบุรุษมาร่วมพิธีลอยเรือ
