ประวัติความเป็นมา
เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2465 ได้มีชาวบ้านจากอำเภอเกษตรวิสัย จังหวัดร้อยเอ็ด ได้อพยพมาตั้งถิ่นฐานบริเวณริมหนองน้ำชื่อ หนองแก จึงเรียกบริเวณที่ตั้งหมู่บ้านว่า เมืองแก อยู่ในความปกครองของตำบลปราสาท อำเภอเมืองบุรีรัมย์ ในปี พ.ศ.2500 อำเภอสตึกได้รับการยกฐานขึ้นเป็นอำเภอ บ้านเมืองแกจึงอยู่ในความปกครองของตำบลหนองใหญ่ อำเภอสตึก ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.2505 ได้แยกออกมาเป็นตำบลเมืองแก
