วัดโลกโมฬีได้กลายเป็นวัดร้างมาหลายร้อยปี ต่อมาเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2544 คณะสงฆ์จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ได้ทำการรื้อฟื้นจากการเป็นวัดร้างให้เป็นวัดที่มีพระสงฆ์จำพรรษาอยู่ ได้ดำเนินการพัฒนาบูรณะวัดโลกโมฬี จนกระทั่งวันที่ 9 ตุลาคม 2544 กรมการศาสนา กระทรวงศึกษาธิการได้อนุมัติให้ยกฐานะจากวัดร้าง มาเป็นวัดมีพระสงฆ์อยู่จำพรรษาอย่างถูกต้องตามกฎหมาย

ปัจจุบัน วัดโลกโมฬีเป็นศูนย์กลางการศึกษาศิลปวัฒนธรรมพื้นบ้าน โดยมีการจัดกิจกรรมขึ้นในเทศกาลต่างๆ สิ่งสำคัญภายในวัดประกอบด้วยเจดีย์ทรงปราสาท สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างขึ้น เมื่อปี พ.ศ.๒๐๗๑ มีประติมากรรมรูปเทวดาที่ประดับตามมุมของเจดีย์ วิหารหลวง เป็นวิหารที่สร้างขึ้นใหม่ภายหลังการบูรณะวัด เป็นศิลปะแบบล้านนา มีความงดงามและปราณีต
