ความเป็นมา
ศูนย์วิปัสสนาสากลไร่เชิญตะวัน ก่อตั้งโดยพระมหาวุฒิชัย วชิรเมธี (ท่านว.วชิรเมธี) พระนักคิด นักเขียน นักเทศน์ และนักพัฒนาสังคมชื่อดังของประเทศไทย เมื่อวันที่ ๒๙ มกราคม ๒๕๕๒ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเป็น “ศูนย์กลางในการเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนาสู่ประชาคมโลก” (International Meditation Center) รมณียสถานแห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่เลขที่๒๑๗ บ้านใหม่สันป่าเหียง ต.ห้วยสัก อ.เมือง จ.เชียงราย บนเนื้อที่กว่า ๑๗๐ ไร่ ทิศเหนือติด ทุ่งนา ทิศใต้ติดอ่างเก็บน้ำห้วยสัก ทิศตะวันออกติดอ่างเก็บน้ำห้วยสัก ทิศตะวันตกติดถนนของชุมชน
