ในพุทธสถานพระธาตุนาดูน
เนื่องจากมีการขุดค้นพบหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ อย่างมากมาย
ทางรัฐบาลจึงได้อนุมัติให้ดำเนินการก่อสร้างพระธาตุนาดูนขึ้น
1. พิพิธภัณฑ์ทางศาสนาและวัฒนธรรม สวนรุกขชาติ สวนสมุนไพร
2. บริเวณรอบ ๆ ตกแต่งให้เป็นสถานที่สำคัญทางพุทธศาสนา
การเดินทาง
- จากตัวเมืองมหาสารคาม (ทางหมายเลข -2040 )
- ผ่าน อำเภอแกดำ – อำเภอวาปีปทุม แล้วเลี้ยวขวาเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 2045, ถึง อำเภอนาดูน ( ทางลาดยางตลอดเส้นทาง ) - ห่างจากตัวเมืองมหาสารคามประมาณ 65 กม.

ถิ่นฐานอารยธรรมจัมปาศรีในอดีตกาล สันนิษฐานได้ว่า มีความเจริญรุ่งเรืองมา 2 ยุค
1. ยุคทวารวดี ระหว่าง พ.ศ.1000 - 1200
2. ยุคลพบุรี ระหว่าง พ.ศ.1600 - 1800
- ประมาณพุทธศตวรรษที่ 13 - 16
- เจดีย์สมัยทวารวดีอยู่ 25 องค์
- เจ้าผู้ครองเมืองนครจำปาศรี นับตั้งแต่ พระเจ้ายศวรราช
- ได้สร้างสถานที่สักการะบูชาในพิธีทางศาสนาพราหมณ์ และ พุทธ เช่น เทวาลัย ปรางค์กู่ เป็นต้น
- เจริญรุ่งเรืองทั้งในด้านศาสนา / วัฒนธรรม / การปกครอง
ประวัติการขุดค้นพบ
ขุดค้นพบเมื่อวันที่ 22 พฤษภาคม 2522 ประชาชนกลุ่มหนึ่งได้ขุดพบพระพิมพ์ดินเผาใน
บริเวณที่นาของนายทองดี ปะวะภูตา ราษฎร-บ้านนาดูน
- ได้ขุดค้นพบสถูปบรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ สถูปทำด้วยทองสำริด แยกเป็น 2 ส่วน คือ
ตัวสถูป / องค์ระฆังแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ตอน
1. ตัวสถูป- บรรจุ พระอังคาร( ขี้เถ้า) ) - สถูปส่วนที่บรรจุผอบพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ
- โดยผอบจะบรรจุซ้อนกัน 3 ชั้น
- ผอบทองคำ ( ในสุด )
- พระบรมสารีริกธาตุบรรจุ 1 องค์
2. ส่วนยอด
- ทำด้วยทองสำริดกลมตัน
- ทำเป็นปล้องไฉนลูกแก้ว และ ปลียอด
- ตอนต้นทำเป็นเกลียวสามารถปิดประกอบกับส่วนตัวองค์สถูปได้พอดี
การก่อสร้างพระธาตุนาดูน
- ก่อสร้าง เมื่อวันที่ 8 มิถุนายน 2522
- เนื้อที่ 902 ไร่
- ก่อสร้างเสร็จเมื่อวันที่ 24 มกราคม 2530
