งานวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษาการสกัดสารสำคัญจากใบย่านางและใบเสลดพังพอนตัวเมีย มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อหาหลักการสกัดสารสำคัญในกลุ่มฟลาโวนอยด์ด้วยตัวทำละลายเอทานอล 95% และน้ำมัน สำหรับวิธีการสกัดแบบการหมักด้วยเอทานอล 95% ซึ่งได้ทำการศึกษาการสกัดที่ระยะเวลา ต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ 1วัน 3วัน 5วันและ7วัน พบว่า ที่ระยะเวลา 7 วัน จะให้ปริมาณสารสกัด(crude extrac) มากที่สุด สำหรับวิธีการสกัดด้วยน้ำมันทำการศึกษา 2 กรณี คือ สกัดโดยใช้ความร้อนและไม่ใช้ความร้อน โดยกรณีที่ไม่ใช้ความร้อน ทำการศึกษาที่ระยะเวลาการหมัก 3วันและ7วัน พบว่าการสกัดทุกกรณีจะให้ปริมาณสารสกัด (oil extrac) ที่ใกล้เคียงกันแต่แตกต่างกันตรงลักษณะของสีซึ่งพบว่า การสกัดโดยใช้ความร้อนจะให้ลักษณะสีที่เข้มกว่ากรณีที่ไม่ใช้ความร้อนอย่างชัดเจน
จากการทดสอบคุณสมบัติทางเคมี พบว่า crude extract จัดเป็นสารประกอบฟีนอลิกแต่ oil extract ไม่ใช่สารประกอบฟีนอลิกและจากการนำ crude extract มาหาปริมาณฟลาโวนอยด์ พบว่าสารสกัดจากใบย่านางมีปริมาณฟลาโวนอย์มากกว่าสารสกัดจากใบเสลดพังพอนตัวเมีย
