หลุยส์  ปาสเตอร์  เป็นนามของนักวิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์ชาวฝรั่งเศส  เขาเป็นผู้ที่ทำให้ชาวโลกรอดพ้นจากโรคระบาดร้ายแรงต่างๆ ด้วยการทุ่มเทชีวิตและจิตใจให้กับงานด้านนี้จนมีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังไปทั่วโลก  มรดกที่เขาทิ้งไว้ก็คือ ทางแก้และป้องกันโรคระบาด  และโรคร้ายบางชนิด
 

เขาเกิดเมื่อวันที่ 27 ธันวาคม  ค.ศ.1822 ที่ตำบลจูรา  เมืองโดล  ประเทศฝรั่งเศส   เขาเป็นบุตรชายคนเดียวของ จัง  โจเซฟ  ปาสเตอร์   ช่างฟอกหนัง   เขาได้รับการเลี้ยงดูเป็นอย่างดีจากบิดา  โดยเฉพาะในด้านการศึกษาจากโรงเรียนมีชื่อ  และเมื่อเรียนจบวิชาสามัญ   เขาก็ถูกส่งไปเรียนฝึกหัดครู  ณ  กรุงปารีส   วิชาที่เขาสนใจมากที่สุดก็คือ  เคมี  วิทยาศาสตร์   และคณิตศาสตร์เมื่อเรียนสำเร็จแทนที่เขาจะโดดไปเป็นครู   เขากลับไปเป็นผู้ช่วยนักเคมีในห้องทดลอง  เพื่อทำปริญญาดุษฎีบัณฑิตทางวิชาเคมีและฟิสิกส์  แล้วเขาก็ทำสำเร็จในปี ค.ศ.1847
