เป็นประเพณีเก่าแก่ที่จัดขึ้นในวันเพ็ญเดือนหก หรือที่ชาวลำพูนเรียกว่า วันแปดเป็ง โดยมีพิธีสรงน้ำ และงานสมโภชพระธาตุหริภุญชัย พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ได้โปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานน้ำสรงพระธาตุเป็นประจำทุกปี
