บทนำ
ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาสากลที่มีความจำเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ทั้งนี้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลางในการเผยแพร่แลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลข่าวสารและความรู้ในแขนงต่างๆ (อารีรักษ์ และคณะ, 2554; Dolati and Mikaili, 2011) ทั้งยังเป็นเครื่องมือสำคัญในการติดต่อสื่อสาร การประกอบอาชีพ การสร้างความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับวัฒนธรรมและเข้าใจวิสัยทัศน์ของชาติอื่นๆ (กาญจนา, 2551; Manivannan, 2006) ดังนั้นการพัฒนาประเทศให้มีความเจริญก้าวหน้าและทัดเทียมกับนานาประเทศจึงจำเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่ต้องพัฒนาศักยภาพของประชากรให้มีความรู้ความสามารถในการสื่อสารด้วยภาษาอังกฤษ (Wannapok, 2004)
ประเทศไทยได้ตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษมาโดยตลอด ดังจะเห็นได้จากการจัดการศึกษาของชาติได้กำหนดให้มีการเรียนการสอนวิชาภาษาอังกฤษทั้งทางด้านการฟัง การพูด การอ่าน และการเขียน (อารีรักษ์ และ สิริพร, 2553) โดยเฉพาะหลักสูตรแกนกลางการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานได้กำหนดให้มีการเรียนตั้งแต่ระดับชั้นประถมศึกษาจนถึงมัธยมศึกษา (อรพรรณ, 2554) แต่กระนั้นการเรียนการสอนภาษาอังกฤษก็มีปัญหามาโดยตลอด ส่งผลให้นักเรียนไม่สามารถใช้ภาษาอังกฤษได้อย่างถูกต้อง (บุบผา, 2555) จนกระทั่งเข้าสู่การเรียนภาษาอังกฤษในระดับอุดมศึกษา ก็เกิดปัญหา เนื่องจากความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษของนักศึกษาอยู่ในเกณฑ์ตํ่ากว่ามาตรฐาน (Prapphal, 2001)
