ประวัติ

พ.ศ. 2428 -- เกิดที่สหรัฐอเมริกา สำเร็จการศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยฮาร์วาร์ด

และได้เป็นศาสตราจารย์วิชากฎหมายของที่มหาวิทยาลัย



พ.ศ. 2466 -- เข้ามารับราชการในประเทศไทยในตำแหน่งที่ปรึกษาราชการ

กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ



พ.ศ. 2467 -- รัชกาลที่ 6 ทรงแต่งตั้งให้เป็นผู้แทนประเทศไทยไปเจรจาขอแก้ไขสนธิ

สัญญา กับประเทศในยุโรป พระยากัลยาณไมตรีเริ่มออกเดินทางไปปฏิบัติงาน

การเจรจาเป็นไปอย่างยากลำบาก โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการเจราจากับอังกฤษและฝรั่งเศสซึ่งต่าง

ก็พยายามที่จะรักษาผลประโยชน์ของฝ่ายตน แต่เนื่องจากพระยากัลยาณไมตรี

เป็น ผู้มีความวิริยะ อุตสาหะ มีความสามารถในการทูต

และความตั้งใจดีต่อประเทศไทย ประกอบกับตนมีสถานภาพเป็นบุตรเขยของ

ประธานาธิบดีวูดโรว์ วิลสัน แห่งสหรัฐอเมริกา จึงทำให้เจรจาสำเร็จ



พ.ศ. 2468 -- ถวายบังคมลาออกจากหน้าที่กลับ ไปสหรัฐอเมริกา



พ.ศ. 2469 -- หลังจากที่รัชกาลที่ 7 ขึ้นครองราชย์ได้ไม่นานพระยากัลยาณไมตรี

ได้ถวายคำแนะนำเกี่ยวกับสถานการณ์บ้านเมืองและแนวทางแก้ปัญหาต่างๆ ตามที่ทรงถามไป

และยังได้ร่างรัฐธรรมนูญถวายให้ทรงพิจารณาอีกด้วย



พ.ศ. 2470 -- จากคุณงามความดีที่มีต่อประเทศไทย จึงได้รับพระราชทานบรรดาศักดิ์

เป็นพระยากัลยาณไมตรี



พ.ศ. 2511 -- รัฐบาลไทยได้ตั้งชื่อถนนข้างกระทรวงการต่างประเทศว่า

ถนน กัลยาณไมตรี
