ความเป็นมาของโครงการ :
สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ทรงรับโครงการอนุรักษ์สภาพป่าแม่ตื่น อำเภอแม่ระมาด จังหวัดตากไว้เป็นโครงการอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ เมื่อวันที่ 9 กุมภาพันธ์ 2554 ตามคำกราบบังคมทูลของกระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม เพื่อให้ผืนป่าแม่ตื่น ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่ติดต่อกับผืนป่าอมก๋อย ได้รับการแก้ไขอย่างถูกต้องและเป็นรูปธรรมในการฟื้นฟูและอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรป่าไม้ในพื้นที่อนุรักษ์ ให้ราษฎรสามารถพึ่งพาตนเองบนพื้นฐานของการใช้ประโยชน์จากทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อมอย่างถูกต้อง ซึ่งจะสามารถรักษาสภาพป่าให้สมบูรณ์ เป็นแหล่งต้นน้ำลำธารและพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตและความเป็นอยู่ของราษฎรให้ดีขึ้นเพื่อให้คนอยู่กับป่าได้อย่างกลมกลืนและยั่งยืนต่อไป
ที่ตั้งของโครงการ :
ในพื้นที่เขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าแม่ตื่น ท้องที่ตำบลแม่ตื่น ตำบลสามหมื่น อำเภอแม่ระนาดและตำบลบ้านนา อำเภอสามเงา จังหวัดตาก มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 1,173 ตารางกิโลเมตร หรือประมาณ 773,128 ไร่
วัตถุประสงค์ :
1. เพื่อสนองพระราชดำริสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ในการอนุรักษ์ผืนที่ป่าให้ดำรงไว้ซึ่งความ
อุดมสมบรูณ์ เพื่อความชุมชื้นให้แก่ผืนดิน
2. ฟื้นฟูและอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรป่าไม้ในพื้นที่ป่าอนุรักษ์ ซึ่งเป็นแหล่งต้นน้ำลำธารที่สำคัญของเขื่อนพรปรมาภิไธย
