During BDEA’s life skills workshops

During BDEA’s life skills workshops students learn the importance of creating a support network outside of BDEA. One of our students, Lionel Nichils, who graduated from BDEA last December, enrolled at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) in January. His dream is to become a chef and restaurant owner, and he was very excited to enter BHCC’s culinary program. Unfortunately, he placed into the lowest developmental classes, which means it will be some time before he is able to actually take any culinary courses. BDEA let him know about Future Chefs, an organization that supports recent high school graduates as they work to break into the culinary industry. With the encouragement and coaching of the Teen Futures program, Lionel was able to contact Future Chefs, meet with a program manager, attend a participant meeting at BHCC, and officially enroll in the program. Lionel now has a support network of mentors and peers who will be able to guide him through BHCC’s program, and continue helping him develop the life skills he will need to be successful.
